Creative Enterprise Development Programme - Resources

Business Angels

Business Angels are private investors or syndicated groups providing equity funding for business opportunities. In addition they contribute their know-how or experience in company management and can offer valuable expertise and guidance. Angels usually seek active participation in the company in which they invest.

Business Angels are a substitute for classic bank financing or venture capital which is often lacking at the early stage of a company's life. They are primarily motivated by return on investment and Business Angel involvement can often help secure access to venture capital or classic bank loans.

The average initial investment by Business Angels ranges between €25K and €125K. Business Angels generally invest in the region where they live and in areas in which they have greatest expertise/ knowledge. They may not necessarily look to invest in new technologies, although some specialise in providing finance in such areas.

You may be interested in the Angels Service if your business:

  • has the potential to be successful and innovative and to achieve significant profits or growth over the next 3-5 years

  • needs finance to achieve your business aims

  • has an innovative or unique proposition which distinguishes it from competitors

  • could be helped by outside expertise

The Angel will normally require an equity stake in your business and may wish to provide a managerial contribution, perhaps as a non-executive director or chairman.

Who can I contact about my local Business Angel Network?

Business Angel Partnership (BAP)
BAP is a new pilot initiative between InterTrade Ireland, Enterprise Ireland and the Irish Business & Innovation Centres (Irish BICs). The BAP pilot programme is managed by the Dublin Business Innovation Centre on behalf of the Partners.

halo

The aim of BAP is to harness the knowledge and experience of InterTrade Ireland, Enterprise Ireland and the Irish BICs working together with those seeking funds for start-up enterprises by identifying private sector individuals with cash and company development knowledge, preferably international knowledge.

BAP seeks to provide a platform for Angels to find business opportunities and through a matching process link the Angel with the Entrepreneur seeking investment. This process is handled in a confidential and precise manner.

Geographically, the BAP will cover the Greater Dublin area, BMW, Southern and Eastern Regions of Ireland.

BAP is working closely with HALO. (Northern Ireland)
